Muslim lawyers do not need to be told of the special role they play in defending and advancing the interests of the Muslim community. But if ever there was a time to remind ourselves of that role and recommit ourselves to fulfilling it, that time is now.

The Legal Strategy Retreat consisted  of Muslim lawyers from across the country and featured the following panelists in two sessions covering the challenges we face, and then how those challenges can be met:

Hugh Handeyside

American Civil Liberties Union

Lena Masri

Council on American-Islamic Relations

Murtaza Hussain

The Intercept

Omar Farah

Center for Constitutional Rights

Raheema Abdulaleem

Naheed Qureishi

Muslim Advocates

Manar Waheed

Former Deputy Policy Director of Immigration at White House Domestic Policy Council

Nermeen Arastu

Clinical Law Professor and Supervising Attorney in the Immigrant & Non-Citizen Rights Clinic, CUNY Law School

Most importantly, attendees had the time and space to connect with one another and figure out together the ways in which Muslim lawyers can be most helpful to our community.
